What is Gold Filled? Gold filled is the process of pressure bonding a thin layer of 14 karat gold to a base metal core, usually brass. Gold filled (unlike gold plating) has an actual layer of 14 karat gold. Gold filled wears, looks, and lasts like solid gold because the outside layer is 14 karat gold. Everything you see and touch is 14 karat gold.
